EDF brought forward a smart Battery as a Service solution to solve energy challenges at the Beck & Co brewery site, yielding costs reduction and operational benefits.

The Efficiency as a Service (EaaS) initiative proudly presents a compelling case study, encapsulated in a video featuring Battery as a Service solution. The video unfolds at the heart of Beck & Co brewery in Bremen, Germany, a historic site active since 1873.

As part of AB InBev, a global brewing giant with 175 breweries worldwide operating in more than 50 markets and a workforce of around 170,000 employees, the Beck & Co plant stands as a testament to brewing excellence. Brands such as Corona Extra, Stella Artois and Budweiser are crafted within its historic walls.

AB InBev’s operations, including those at the Beck & Co brewery, are energy-intensive: they are marked by heat and cooling processes that create significant peaks in energy demands. In 2023, Beck & Co searched for a reliable and sustainable solution to reduce their peaks in energy demand.

Addressing this challenge, EDF Renewables’ Battery as a Service solution emerged as a strategic choice for AB InBev: part of the brewery electricity consumption management, the battery storage solution reduces peaks during high-load time periods and mitigates the impact of associated high electricity price.

This collaborative venture is a blueprint for sustainability in an industry that thrives on tradition. The video showcases the seamless integration of smart solutions into a heritage-rich brewing environment, highlighting the potential of Battery as a Service to support energy management in large-scale operations.

As AB InBev continues to lead the brewing industry with a strong commitment to pursuing potentials on the road to CO2-neutral brewing, and EDF Renewables propels the energy sector towards a cleaner future, the journey ahead is more than promising.
